Abstract

In some studies, the comic book is an effective resource to increase the reader's knowledge. However, writing both informative and entertaining comics is not a simple task. In preparing for face-to-face education during the COVID-19 pandemic, students need to master the knowledge regarding the application of health protocols in both school and surrounding environments. Comics can be an alternative to prepare face-to-face education for elementary school students. This study used the communication-based influence components model to analyze the health protocol campaign that involves the community with a media approach. This article compares the effect of elementary school students' knowledge on health protocols before and after reading the "Healthy and Cheerful during the Pandemic." The research subjects were 3rd and 4th-grade students of public elementary schools in Tanjungsari District, Sumedang Regency, West Java. The research method used is a comparison with a quantitative approach. Pretest and posttest were used to independently measure the respondents' knowledge before and after reading comics. The results of the t test = -1.318 p>0.05 showed that there was no significant difference in the respondents' knowledge before and after reading the comic book "Healthy and Cheerful during in a Pandemic." From the results of this study, it is necessary to carry out further experiments with higher age groups, using the help of storytellers or by lowering the complexity of messages in this comic.
